Over the past few decades, there has been some conversation, debate, research, and even several academic papers published with regard to the human-nature connection and its “potential benefits” to especially human health and mental well-being.
It remains, however, surprising that we as the human species, as biological beings who are inseparably linked and are all part of the living world, the biodiversity of planet earth – have to deliberately focus, debate, and do “research” in attempts to establish a possible connection or to convince ourselves of it and then to define exactly what our specific connection with nature and all other living creatures are.
In fact, it is quite simple and best put in the words of Alan Watts:
“We do not “come into” this world, we come out of it as leaves from a tree”
The human “EGO” …
It is ironic that we, the human species, continuously talk about how “WE must heal the world”, “We must save our planet”, “WE must stop the present extinction of other species”, “WE must conserve nature”, “WE must do more research”, etc., etc., etc.!
However, the “world”, planet earth, the universe – does NOT need our human “healing”. Even we, the cause of most of these negative situations, do not need “healing”!
We simply just need to wake up – that’s all!
We MUST wake up to realise WHO we truly are. Once we’ve done that – people will live in constant, total awe of this magical life experience and all other living creatures that we share it with. We’ll respect and not harm anything or anyone – including ourselves.
As best described by Graham Hancock:
“I believe we are a species with amnesia, I think we have forgotten our roots and our origins. I think we are quite lost in many ways. And we live in a society that invests huge amounts of money and vast quantities of energy in ensuring that we all stay lost. A society that invests in creating unconsciousness, which invests in keeping people asleep so that we are just passive consumers of products and not really asking any of the questions”
One of the main reasons why the human-animal feels disconnected, isolated, and lost in a seemingly hostile world, is to a large extent the result of us severing our connection with nature, hence, spirit, and all other living creatures, including ourselves. This connection serves as our internal guidance system – without it, we are lost in many ways.
The problem thus seems to be that human society has been conditioning generation after generation to make choices in favour of a more materialistic or capitalistic way of life, separating people from nature. This leads to ultimate enslavement and a desperate feeling of “homesickness” as described by the psychiatrist and author, Ian McCallum.
Thus, from a “real world” perspective, Terence McKenna put the human “wake up” instruction in very direct and simple words …
“Reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.”
We can add endless quotes, fancy labels, and concept titles from numerous publications and/or accredited people to further illustrate this human-nature split, but at the end of the day, as previously concluded, it all comes down to this one simple thing – the human species MUST wake up, starting with one individual at a time and only YOU can make that choice.
To wake up, to be a light, accept that WE are all the same light, reflected as individual rays of perceived reality through the prism of this unique life experience at this moment in time.
